A gravity conveyor roller is a simple, reliable,cheap device and doesn't need a power source so costs nothing to run and doesn't need guarding.

Gravity conveyor rollers only turn when a load is being conveyed - not continuously as in a powered roller system. Precision bearings are therefore normally not necessary.

Gravity roller conveyors allow loads to be easily stopped and started without complex mechanisms to disconnect/reconnect the power source from the rollers.
