A gravity conveyor roller is a simple, reliable,cheap device and doesn't need a power source so costs nothing to run and doesn't need guarding. Gravity conveyor rollers only turn when a load is being conveyed - not continuously as in a powered roller system. Precision bearings are therefore normally not necessary. Gravity roller conveyors allow loads to be easily stopped and started without complex mechanisms to disconnect/reconnect the power source from the rollers. A gravity roller well suited to its application will give years of trouble free service. Gravity rollers are available in many different materials for many different applications. Gravity conveyors have only two disadvantages - they cannot convey loose powders and they cannot convey uphill!
